The case will explore the dual experiences of administrative leaders in a large urban district who have implemented comprehensive initiatives intended to improve the quality of teaching and ultimately, raise student achievement. The first part of the case will delve into an effort driven by a curriculum director to make significant headway in how mathematics is taught in the elementary grades. The second half of the case focuses on the implementation of the district’s comprehensive teacher evaluation system under Race to the Top.
