1. PRIVACY POLICY

    This statement informs users of the policies and procedures concerning personal information collection and use by the Harvard Education Publishing Group (HEPG) website (www.hepg.org) and related sites. HEPG is committed to protecting the privacy of individuals’ personal information. We collect personal information for the purpose of processing subscriptions, product orders, registering and using the site, and other compatible uses. By using our site and registering for any of our services or products, you consent to our collection and use of your information in accordance with this privacy policy.

    Information Collection

    Personal data
    We collect personal information for the purpose of processing subscriptions, product orders, and other compatible uses on our websites. The information we require for use of our services and products may include your name, mailing address, email address, telephone number, fax number, credit card information, IP address for systems administration, and demographic information for user profiling in aggregate form. We may ask for additional information, such as when you sign up for the eNewsletter. We use this information to customize your experience and to provide you with email notifications about your account.

    Log data
    Our servers automatically record information that your browser provides such as your Internet Protocol address, web request, browser type, date and time of your request, web pages visited, files accessed, and one or more cookies for identification.

    Cookies
    The HEPG websites employ the use of cookies for user access privileges and shopping cart tracking. Cookies do not themselves contain any personal information. The cookies establish continuity between related requests, to personalize the site to your preferences, for log-in, and to analyze web traffic. You may choose to block cookies with your browser, but if you do, you may not be able to take advantage of the site’s personalized features.

    Communications
    When you send an email or other communication to us, we may retain the communication in order to process your query, respond to your request, and improve our services. All communications are stored on a secure server and are accessible only to staff and trusted third party service providers (see below).

    If you use our invitation service to tell a friend about an article or blog, we will ask you for information needed to send the invitation, such as your friend's email address. We do not store this information after the email is sent.

    If you sign up for our eNewsletter, all of the contact information is stored on a secure server. You will receive the newsletter by email bimonthly.

    If you decide at any time that you no longer wish to receive communications from us, please follow the unsubscribe instructions provided in any of the communications.

    Information Use

    Service Providers
    We employ certain third parties to assist us in providing services including, without limitation, hosting and maintenance of our websites, customer service and sales. We will share your personal information with these third parties, but only in so far as necessary to perform these functions and provide such services, and only pursuant to binding contracts requiring such third parties to maintain the privacy and security of your personal data.

    Subscribers
    If you subscribe to Harvard Educational Review or Harvard Education Letter we will make your name and mailing address available to organizations that promote products we believe are of interest to our subscribers. If you prefer that we not share this information, please contact us at hepg@harvard.edu. You will be removed from the list.

    Limitations
    HEPG will not sell, rent, swap or authorize any third party to use your email address or any other personal information provided for the purposes of registering at one of our websites. HEPG does not link IP addresses to anything personally identifiable; user sessions will be tracked, but the users will remain anonymous. Web server logs are retained on a temporary basis and then deleted from our systems.

    Outside links
    Our website contains links to independently run websites. HEPG is not responsible for the content or the privacy policies of websites to which we link. We do not endorse or accept responsibility for the content or the use of third-party websites. If you use third-party sites, you do so solely at your own risk. Links do not imply that HEPG or Harvard University is affiliated or associated with any linked sites.

    Children’s Privacy
    This site's content is not intended for children under 13 years of age and we will not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 years of age. If you are under 13 years of age, you should not use the site or register for an account.

    Security
    This site has appropriate security measures in place to protect the loss, misuse, and alteration of the information under our control. However, we cannot guarantee that those security measures will be effective.

    Changes to the Policy
    This policy is subject to change as law, technology, and customer needs change. If we change the policy, we will post the modified policy on this page, and will note the date of modification.
